Acetone glycidyl, also known as meta-acetone glycidyl or acetone-glycerol condensate, is a synthetic resin. It has the chemical formula (CH3)2CO-C3H5O3 and a molecular weight of 144.17 g/mol, and is a colourless, transparent, highly viscous liquid. Unlike other synthetic resins, acetone glycidyl is a compound with a dual functional group (hydroxyl and methyl carbinyl) and therefore has unique chemical properties and uses. Acetone glycidyl can be used as a solvent, plasticiser, adhesive and coating base. In coatings, it improves the hardness and abrasion resistance of the coating, as well as enhancing the gloss of the coating. In some special cases it can even be used as a curing agent for paints. Acetone glycidyl is also used extensively in wallpaper, printing inks and foil stickers.
