Dimethyl terephthalate is mainly used in the manufacture of polyester resin, and then the manufacture of thin films and fibers, and high strength polyester insulating paint. Mylar is mainly used as electrical insulation material and in the production of film (e.g. as a substrate for motion picture film, X-ray film, photographic film, Chemicalbook, audio tape, video tape, electronic computer tape, etc.). The most common use of polyester resin is in the manufacture of fibers, used in fabrics, fishing nets, carpets, tire cord and so on.
